Josh's Journey with Bone Marrow Edema Syndrome

Updated: Jan 12

Hi, My name is Josh and I am currently 17 years old. When I was going into 7th grade, I started experiencing ankle pain that progressively got worse. I began to miss basketball and soccer practice and eventually was at the point where I could no longer walk. My condition got misdiagnosed for several months. I felt so alone and it became very hard for me to attend school. Eventually, I got diagnosed correctly with bone marrow edema syndrome. I had to wear two ankle casts and was in a wheelchair for several months. Although I am back to playing basketball and cured, I wish there was a platform like this when I felt hopeless. I hope that kids who currently have my condition know that they aren't alone! If there are any kids who want to share their experience with BMES, feel free to leave a comment and we can further discuss.
